  1. This picture reminds me of when I was about 16 and my best friend, Tommy B., somehow obtained a key to the big old library near the Open High near downtown Richmond. When the library was closed we could enter and explore for hours. He showed me how to get up to “the stacks” a strange place with multiple levels of catwalks and rows of books, it seemed like millions of books. What a place to be when know one knew you were there. Why did they keep so many books up there? I guess they had a record of them, the Dewey Decimal System? Did I get that right?, So that someone could request a book and it could be pulled from the stacks? Anyhoo, we would go in there, get all toked up and just have the run of the entire building. In this place where they told you to be quiet, we enjoyed screaming at the top of our lungs with no one to shush us. Tommy always dutifully locked the place up after our unsupervised tours. We also went up in the inner dome of Broad St. Station that you entered by a secret ladder in the second story mens room mop closet.
Kids can’t have that kind of fun these days.
